Honda entered the power products business because we wanted to utilize our engine technology to enable people to perform their work with greater ease and improve the quality of life in general.
We developed our first engine for power products in 1953. The introduction of a tiller in 1959 led to the development portable generators, outboard engines, pumps, lawn mowers, snow throwers, power carrier, tractors and various other power products. As of 2002, Honda has produced a total of 50 million power products.
Unique 4-Stroke Engine Technology Honda uses 4-stroke engines for all of its power products because they offer cleaner exhaust gas emissions, better fuel economy and lower noise levels. Before Honda introduced its models, people thought that only 2-stroke engines could be used for outboard engines and for ultra-compact products used for hand-held operation. However, innovative Honda technology enabled the development of 4-stroke engines for these applications.
Honda - One of a Few that Produces Engines and Completed Products While Honda supplies engines to other manufacturers of power products, it also produces completed lawn mowers and other complete power products in house. The data obtained in the production of these and other completed power products is fed back to the design of engines, and technical device is provided to power product manufacturers to which Honda engines are supplied.
